Pressure Washers

Sure, you can pull out the garden hose, some cleaning detergent, and conjure up all of the elbow grease you can muster up to get through your outdoor cleaning tasks, but why put out all of that energy if you don’t have to?  Commercial pressure washers will not only tackle those time-consuming jobs in a fraction of the time, but the effort being used will be significantly less, leaving you with much more time to complete more jobs on your do-to list while likely leaving you with some down time afterwards. Does it sound too good to be true? Sometimes that is the case, but not here. Commercial pressure washers can make lighter of a burdensome task, but proceed with caution since pressure washers do pack a powerful punch in their ability to get cleaning jobs done quickly and efficiently. They can certainly be dangerous to use, but the outcome is all worthwhile so long as you use with great care. There are many pieces of equipment that help make a tough job easier, yet can be hazardous when not used properly, such as nail guns, weed whackers, and table saws, but when used correctly are tools that many are ultimately not willing to live without.

What are pressure washers?

Pressure washers can also be called power washers and use a high-pressure water spray to remove anything from dirt and grime to mold and chewing gum from surfaces. Consumer Reports explains, “Pressure washers use either a gas engine or an electric motor, a pump, and a concentrating nozzle to boost water pressure from your hose connection by 30 to 80 times. Though a garden hose alone delivers water pressure at about 50 pounds per square inch (PSI), pressure washers can generate 1,500 to 4,000 PSI. That’s a lot of power. And when operated properly, they blast away stains without damaging the surface material beneath.”

Are pressure washers and power washers the same?

Yes and no. They are the same in ways that they function. They are both used to remove dirt and other debris from hard surface materials with high-pressurized water. Both pressure washers and power washers use the same amount of water pressure. Obviously, the industrial-sized machines offer much higher pressure than a lighter, household machine. For our purposes we are just comparing the regular, not the industrial machines. A power washer may contain a heating element that pressure washers do not have. Both machines clean very well but for regular household use, using a pressure washing may be best. Pressure washers tend to be less harsh on surfaces so use it to safely clean brick and concrete. When looking to quickly clean up your patio or deck, invest in a pressure washer for a job very well done.

Why use a pressure washer?

Why not use a pressure washer unless you want to use up your whole day scrubbing. Pressure washers can be used for many outdoor cleaning jobs such as removing ground-in dirt, moss, mildew, mold and algae from your wooden deck. It can also be used to clean pools, windows, vinyl house siding, gutters, bricks, vinyl and wood fencing, stairs, and also on concrete patio and pool deck areas along with many other surfaces. Always be sure to use your pressure washer on the lowest setting. Low-pressure nozzle tips are recommended since the machine produces such a powerful water jet even when used on the lowest setting. The high pressure water jet from a pressure washer has enough force to strip wood, so it is easy to quickly ruin your things if not very careful. Are gas or electric pressure washers better?

According to, “Gas models have one huge advantage in pressure washer reviews: They clean faster, due to much higher pressure and flow rates. They can handle any job a homeowner can throw at them, including heavy concrete cleaning. Electric models have all the other advantages. They’re much smaller and half the weight of a gas machine but check out electric pressure washer reviews to find the best electric power washer. They start up as soon as you squeeze the trigger and shut down as soon as you let go. So you won’t have any gas hassles or starting issues, and you’ll never have to worry about pump damage from extended idling. And since there’s no exhaust, you can use them indoors. If you need maximum power and want to get the job done fast, go with gas. Otherwise, enjoy the convenience of an electric pressure washer.” Many of you reading this will not be using your pressure washer indoors, but if you feel so inclined and don’t mind the wet mess, it appears that the electric for that location would be the way to go. Whichever way you are leaning toward, both gas and electric clearly have their own individual benefits.

Are pressure washers dangerous to use?

Of course they are dangerous to use if safety precautions are not utilized and instructions for proper use are not followed. Most time-saving tools and equipment are generally dangerous: think power tools. The PSI on pressure washers is certainly enough to cause serious harm like amputation of a finger or toe, so be sure to always use safety first in any cleaning task. Employ safeguards like always wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes as well as long pants and goggles, keep all limbs far away from water stream, do not use near pets and children, try to always use the low pressure setting for all cleaning tasks, avoid using the red zero-degree nozzle whenever possible due to higher damage probability to the user as well as property. In fact, Consumer Reports says to steer clear of any tip or setting that produces water streams finer than 15 degrees to ensure proper water pressure safety. Remember, implementing safety first is always the best way to approach all kinds of jobs.
